Arterial Switch Baby of BMJ Hospital
7-day old baby was admitted at BMJ hospital with gradually worsening cyanosis. 2DECHO scan revealed a heart condition called D-TGA also called transposition wherein the great arteries arising from right ventricle and left ventricle gets interchanged. So, unless surgical correction is done before 2 weeks of age, baby would not survive. Operating on such a baby where organ systems are immature carries its own risk. High risk was explained to relatives and surgery called The ARTERIAL SWITCH OPERATION was done. Baby tolerated the procedure well. It was extubated on second postop day and discharged on ninth postop day.
