The case of Baby Pirabi’s Valuable Valves
Baby Pirabi was just 9 months old when she had to go through heart operation. Her father Kasim and mother Baby are from a very poor background. They live in Raichur, Karnataka and they have a family of 7 members with Kasim the sole bread winner of the family. Kasim works as a construction worker and has monthly salary of Rs 10000 to sustain his family.
The baby was delivered in KC General Hospital, where during the delivery time the doctors said that the baby may have heart problem and if so to contact Needy Heart Foundation (NHF) as the foundation provides help and funding to people from economically low background. Soon the family came to Bangalore for the heart operation. They got in contact with NHF foundation for help and the baby was admitted in J ayadeva hospital. When they came to J ayadeva hospital Ms.Veena helped them a lot. She gave them the directions and explained them the procedures of the operation.NHF and J aydeva gave them hope for their baby’s better health.
The baby had Heart Valve disease and had to go through open heart surgery. Heart valve disease occurs when the heart valves do not work the way they should. Open-heart surgery was done to repair the heart valves, allowing the blood to travel through the heart. The operation was done by Dr. J ayant Kumar ofJ ayadeva hospital. The family had to pay half the cost of the operation and the other half was provided by Needy heart foundation. Even after NHF’s help the family is suffering from major financial problems as they had to pay half the amount as well as had to bear the living cost and other expenses for their 1 month stay in Bangalore. Once the surgery was done they did not have to pay for anything. The baby was taken care of and the medicines were provided by the hospital itself. The baby is 10 months now and has been discharged from the hospital.
The patient’s parents are very grateful to the hospital and Needy Heart Foundation for giving their baby a new life where she can live without any medical problem and for helping them when it seemed that there was no hope and for easing their problems. They were very happy and grateful to NHF for the financial help they provided through which their baby is now health and happy.
